A tōrō is a traditional Japanese lantern, usually made of stone, wood, or metal. It is a form I've fallen in love with since I started with ceramics. So far I've made about 10.
This one sits next to the fireplace on the marble floor of our front hall. Leaves drift into the room when the dog goes in or out and somehow seem to congregate next to the tōrō. One evening I noticed that it was a pleasing composition, so rather than sweep up the leaves, I painted the scene.
