Broad Ripple Fire Station
Broad Ripple Fire Station

2021

I finished White River, Broad Ripple and my car wasn't yet ready. So I walked into downtown Broad Ripple to search for another painting. Then I remembered this lovely old fire station. I sat down on a bench outside a closed bar, right on the street. Fortunately, no one parked in the empty space between the fire station and me. While I was painting, one of the guys from the station came over to see what I was doing. He told me that they're actually going to close this station and move to a brand new station nearby. Fortunately (for me, not for the fire department) it is a historic building so when it closes it won't change much. He would have liked them to put the money for a new station into this one, but that would cause issues with the historic preservation people.
