Grass by a fence
Bluestem

2020

I was walking the dog some weeks ago when I saw this grass growing next to a fence. The light was perfect. The grass was practically glowing with blues and greens which made an excellent contrast to the wooden fence. So I took a photo and determined to make a painting. I wanted it to be larger than my usual sized work, so I ordered several full sheets of PastelMat paper. I made the long side the entire height of the paper and chose a 2:1 height:width ratio. I painted the background and the fence on Friday, May 22, but the light was going and I had to put it away. I finished the next morning.
