This oak tree has been in my yard for as long as I can remember. I believe my parents planted it before I was born, so now it's a pretty imposing tree.
I took the idea for this painting from a water colorist I know. She did something similar with a sycamore tree in New Harmony several years ago. Rather than straining my neck looking up into the tree and back to my board, I placed a mirror at the base of the tree and painted the reflection.
