Deep Creek trail in the Great Smokey Mountains is one of my favorite places in the world. Walking up the trail from our campsite is a daily ritual when we stay there. This is a little falls just above the second bridge above the campground.
On the day I started this painting the water was quite high, flowing all around a huge boulder that normally narrows the creek to a space you can almost jump across. The water isn't usually this high. By the next day when I returned to finish the painting, the level had dropped considerably and I had to use a little imagination to figure out where the water had been.
