Cathedral Labyrinth Gate
Cathedral Labyrinth Gate
Pastel

2005

The town of New Harmony has a labyrinth based on the one at Chartres cathedral in a little park near the visitor center. It is one of three Labyrinth Society labyrinths I have visited and this one is my favorite. This is the gate to the labyrinth seen from inside. I also call this painting "Escape" because of the exact repetitive pattern of everything inside the gate and the wild, unkempt look of the flowering tree seen through the gate.

My intention was to really make the tree through the gate really pop, but now I think I was using the wrong support. Sanded paper might have let me it out better. And the ornamental grass in the foreground really needs more than a few dots.
