These days I’m out walking before dawn and I watch the sunrise through bare trees. One day a flock of sandhill cranes flew very low over the trees just at sunrise. They didn’t even start to call to each other until just after they passed me. They probably had spent the night on the mudflats at the north end of Eagle Creek. The air was full of the sound of cars on the way to work which put the idea of commuting birds in my mind.
